fanart: there are wings on my back
Sep. 24th, 2009 11:45 pmFinally getting the hang of this Photoshop business! It's still time-consuming, but the benefit over coloring by hand is that I can go back and redo old layers -- if I don't like the way they originally turned out, that is.
あたしの背中には, 羽がある
Not much to say except that this is a fairly old sketch, and as usual, I can't decide whether I like it better with the background filter or not.

It depends on the amount of detail in your art, the coloring style you use, and how much time you're willing to invest in all the features that Photoshop has. There are a lot of benefits to Photoshop if you're willing to take advantage of them, but they do require a considerable amount of time and effort. Fortunately, there are plenty of tutorials online, and the basics aren't too difficult to pick up. Still, unless you're planning to use Photoshop for a lot of your work, I'd say it's a good idea to think about whether you really want to use it or not.
The one issue I have with Photoshop is that delicate lines just don't come out well after they've been scanned. This is annoying for me, because that means I have to make sure I ink in the lines so they're dark and thick before I start the coloring process. And it looks odd to my eyes. :P The best solution would be to use a tablet, but those are a big investment.
