marveling at good things!
Nov. 17th, 2009 09:44 pmThis may not be news of any sort, but I'm applying to the JET Program. My application is due soon (the 24th of this month), and I've been hustling to get all of my materials together and send it out in time. As part of the application, JET asks for three official transcripts. Two of them can be copies, but one has to be the original form.
I ordered them recently from BU Brain, even though I ought to have done this a while ago. Since I was worried about them not reaching here in time, I went down to the Registrar at 9:30 today to see if I could speed the process along. I spoke to a receptionist there to check on the status of my transcripts, and lo and behold, there was an issue.
She told me I had made a mistake with the address on the original form, so that even when the transcripts came, they would go directly to the office instead of me. So, I asked her about ordering the transcripts overnight through Fed Ex to make sure they arrived in time. She said that would be probably be the best option, and gave me a form which I was all prepared to fill out and sign for regardless of the cost.
Then she asked me if I lived on campus, to which I said yes. I figured this would be a problem, since for some reason, the Registrar's office doesn't ship stuff to students' BU Boxes. So she told me to wait to speak to someone named Diana, who would know what to do about this. I waited for a while, but then had to leave for my next class, so I told the receptionist that I would be back later and walked out of the building.
At two o'clock, I came back to the Registrar. When I got there, another receptionist was at the desk. The one who I spoke to earlier, Kelly, had left for the day. Because of that, I talked to the new receptionist about the transcript issue again. After explaining that I had been there earlier and had spoken to Kelly, she gave me a note with my name and the words "pick-up" on it -- along with the envelopes that had my official transcripts. Just like that. So I rambled off a quick thanks to that receptionist (her expression was sort of priceless), and left with those three envelopes in my hand.
I didn't even have to order the transcripts again, or Fed Ex them here at all. And I was so stressed out and miserable earlier this week.
It's funny, but things like this are what restore my faith in the human race.
